A “Friendly” Ghost Story

Who Goes There?

I am writing this happening, mostly to help us understand, that we cannot see everything with our five senses. There are actual entities, that are existing, that we cannot (normally) sense. A dog can see things with their eyes/brain, that we cannot, because their eyes can see different light frequencies than our eyes\brain can.

I was in Grade 5/6, and living in the Midwest. My brother and I had bedrooms in our basement.

One night, while i was laying in bed, I suddenly heard footsteps on the carpet, just next to my bed. The footsteps were in the pattern of a person, slowly walking around in circles, in my room. It was scary. It kept going on and on. Finally, I couldn’t take it, and started yelling for my mom.

My parents’ room was almost directly above me, so they could hear me hollering. My mom came down. As soon as she opened the door. The footsteps stopped. My mom sat in my room, and talked to me for a while, calming me and saying that no one was there.

She left. As soon as the door closed, the footsteps around my room started again. I realized that it was pointless calling my mom back down, and nothing bad happened, so I finally fell asleep.

At some point, we (my brother and I), believed we had a ghost(s) in our basement. Sometimes, when I was down there myself, I would talk out loud to the ghost, tell the ghost I was friendly, and meant no harm.

Some time later, I was walking into the far room in the basement, which had a normal inside door, with a doorknob. Just as I reached for the doorknob, I saw it rotating. It stopped moving, and the door slowly opened. I walked through, once against telling the ghost I was friendly, and trying to stay calm. Just as I entered the room, the door slowly closed behind me, and latched shut.

Nothing happened. i told my dad the story. He said it was just the wind, opening the door, and nothing to worry about. While he told me this, I thought to myself, “Yes, just the wind. The wind often turns a doorknob, opens a door, and then shuts it. Just the wind.” After that, I never talked to my parents about any ghost stuff, as they knew nothing (just like Jon Snow).
